About the Artist

The music of a saxophone quartet is unique, provides entertainment for all ages and draws a crowd. We can be scheduled for charity events, parties, or to draw attention to your business or activity. Please consider us for your future musical needs. Contact us with any questions or for booking.

Mark Gloden - Alto and Tenor Saxophone
Mark’s major instruments are the saxophone, clarinet, and piano. He grew up in western Pennsylvania, where he was his high school’s drum major. Mark attended the Armed Forces School of Music in Norfolk, Virginia and served as a Navy musician for four years. He earned his Masters of Music degree in Music Education at Ithaca College and has taught general and instrumental music at the elementary, middle, and high schools levels in Miami, Florida and here in Wake County. Currently, Mark is an Alternative Learning Center teacher at East Wake High School. He is an active performer in the Raleigh area - in pit orchestras for numerous musical theater productions as a member of musical ensembles, including the Raleigh Jazz Orchestra and Moonlighters, and as a solo cocktail pianist. Mark also served the local music community as conductor of the Raleigh Concert Band for over twenty years.

Matthew Schaffer - Soprano and Tenor Saxophone
Matt has been playing clarinet and saxophone since his early teens and enjoys playing many genres of styles. He has played with such groups as the Saddleback Symphony, America’s Youth in Concert and currently with local groups such as the Tune Swingers Orchestra here in the Raleigh area. Matt stopped playing while he made receiving his degree, creating a life with his wife (that he met at a music camp for advanced musicians in his late teens), developing a career and raising two boys a priority. Matt moved from Southern California in 1994 and now calls Raleigh his home while working for IT companies designing telephone systems for major corporations in the US and internationally.

Charlie Wiese - Baritone Saxophone
Charlie discovered his love of the saxophone at an early age, growing up in California and Oregon and playing the Alto Saxophone with a variety of school ensembles throughout high school and college, and met his wife when they played together in a college wind ensemble. After suffering through a 13-year absence from music-making (during which time he and his lovely wife raised a Dancer & Flutist, a Saxophonist & Drum Major, and a Dancer & French horn player), Charlie resumed playing the saxophone in 1995. Following his move from the San Francisco Bay Area to Raleigh in 2003, Charlie joined several area bands including Little German Band and Dancers (Alto Sax), Raleigh Concert Band (Tenor Sax), and High Society Orchestra (Bari Sax). Grandpa Charlie is a Program Manager for IBM in RTP.

Karen Zeher - Alto, Soprano, and Tenor Saxophone
Karen grew up in New Jersey and has lived in the Raleigh area since 1989. She started playing clarinet at the age of 8 and quickly moved to saxophone. While Karen was in high school and college she played in many groups including marching bands, pit orchestras, concert and jazz bands. Her education is in Computer Science and she works in the IT industry as a Senior Support Analyst. Karen is active with the Wake County High Schools as they rely on her to perform in the pit orchestras supporting their theatrical productions. She is also active very with the Tune Swingers Orchestra, the Raleigh Jazz Orchestra, Casablanca, the Raleigh Concert Band, and accompanies the St. Luke Catholic Church Choir.
